Electric bicycle standards in China

Electric bicycles use batteries as auxiliary energy sources and have two wheels. It is a special bicycle that can realize the functions of human riding, electric or electric assist.

1. Maximum speed: should not exceed 25km/h.
2. Whole vehicle mass: no more than 55kg (including battery).
3. Pedal driving ability: Must have a good pedal riding function. The pedaling distance of 30min should not be less than 7km.
4. Continuation mileage: The continuation mileage after one charge should not be less than 25km.
5. Maximum riding noise: The noise during electric uniform riding at the highest speed should not exceed 62dB(A). The power consumption of 100km should not exceed 1.2kW·h.
6. Electricity consumption per hundred kilometers: The electric energy consumption for 100km of electric riding should not exceed 1.2KWH.
7. Motor power: The rated continuous output power should not be greater than 400W.
8. Braking performance: When riding electric at the highest speed (electrically assisted riding at a speed of 20km/h). The dry braking distance should be no more than 4m, and the wet braking distance should be no more than 15m.

Since Hong Kong implements “One Country, Two Systems”, Hong Kong has independent traffic laws. Electric bicycles are regarded as motorcycles in Hong Kong. Like cars, they must be approved by the Transportation Department before they can be imported. None of the electric bicycles in Hong Kong have passed the audit, so electric bicycles in Hong Kong are illegal. Even if the electric bicycle passes the review, the driver must still have a motorcycle driver’s license to get on the road.
